2016 marks the end of a long-standing dream of mine to explore Southeast Asia, and I couldn't be happier on how the year turned out. 2017 will finally be the year where I can finally push forward and see how far I'll go, but before that, here's 16 of my best travel moments of 2016.
16. Fulfilled an item on my bucket list and visited Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon, Mahamuni Temple in Mandalay and Golden Rock in Kyaiktiyo, the three holiest sites in Myanmar
15. Witnessed the tantalizing puja ceremony in the Temple of the Tooth, Kandy, Sri Lanka
14. Visited the remarkable, over two millennia-old rice terraces of Banaue and Batad, Philippines
12. This unforgettable sunset at Mirissa Beach, Sri Lanka
11. Experienced the beauty of Inle Lake on two wheels
10. Climbed Pidurangala Rock in Sigiriya, Sri Lanka and marveled at the amazing views from the top
9. Island hopping around El Nido and Coron, Palawan, the last frontier of the Philippines
8. Trekked to both Little Adam's Peak and Ella Rock to be awed again and again by the majestic Ella Gap, Sri Lanka
7. This beautiful sunrise taken from Kiltepan viewpoint, Sagada, Philippines
6. Did an unplanned detour to Hpa-an, Myanmar on a whim, the best decision I ever made during the trip
5. This amazing sunrise taken from Nyaung Shwe, Myanmar
3. Climbed up the 700 steps of Mount Tapyas to see the sunrise and this awesome view of Coron and the Calamian islands, Palawan, Philippines
2. Went on the train ride from Kandy to Ella, Sri Lanka, one of the most beautiful train rides in the world
1. Truth be told, choosing my favorite moment of the year was a difficult one! But, taking a boat out of Saddan cave, into the countryside in Hpa-An, Myanmar on the cusp of sunset, slightly edges out the rest of the competition and becomes my favorite moment of 2016!
